Preparing for a study abroad experience may seem easy but in truth it is more confusing and exhausting than the trip itself. To really enjoy your year abroad you will need to plan ahead. There is nothing worse than reaching your destination lacking essential items that you forgot to bring with you or that you just didn’t think you would need.
Packing
Plan in advance, sometimes weeks in advance, of what you will need to pack for your trip. What you would normally wear to go out for coffee in America may not be suitable in the country where you are headed. Research what the weather will be like in that country. Then, add a few contingency items just in case. Leave room for the souvenirs.
School Supplies
Even though you will be traveling, you are still going to school. You may find some things that you need where you are headed but not at home. It will be easier to get the things you need by checking out the back to school deals online. You will find every item you need to head abroad from laptops to rain coats. Researching for your packing will give you an idea of what you will need to buy.
Plan, Plan, Plan
Going to school abroad will pose major problems if you haven’t planned in advance. It would be a good idea to have some cash in their currency when you land. Buy a phone card before you leave home to make any calls if you lose your cell phone or the battery dies.
It’s better to have the item before you get there than to not be able to find it once you arrive. Take care of the hard stuff before leaving and you can enjoy your experience abroad.
