Even with the world economy on the brink of disaster, there’s never going to be a time where different cultures don’t interact for business. We are too connected to eve survive in an isolated country. Although the maths and sciences are extremely important in today’s education systems, it is also very important that people know how to communicate with different cultures.
Take a Foreign Language in High School
High school students should be strongly encouraged to take a foreign language. In many countries it’s mandatory, but in the U.S., it is mostly an elective. Therefore, teachers and parents need to make new languages a priority for students. In America, Spanish is probably the most important second language, but Mandarin, Arabic, and German are very important, too.
As students transition to higher education, they will be able to make a smoother transition to college language courses if they’ve gotten their foundation in high school, or even grammar school.
Social Studies
More emphasis should be placed on Social Studies and Geography in the U.S. Many American high school students can’t even find the 50 states, much less major world powers and industrial partners. In a global economy, workers will succeed if they know where a country is located in the world, and if they understand that country’s culture and history.
World History
Most students hate history if it’s just a lesson in rote memory. A good History teacher will make the class interesting and exciting with stories, movies, and interactive culture lessons. History is very important, so make sure your child knows this. No good cultural education is complete without it.
